Course Objectives

This course is designed to equip participants with the basic knowledge of analytics technologies behind digital intelligence and pervasive computing, extending from factories all the way to homes and offices, in order to leverage the power of Industry 4.0 and the Smart Economy. The course will use actual cases to cover the following:

• Servitization, Circular Economy, Additive Manufacturing, and other drivers and enablers shaping Industry 4.0 and the Smart Economy – Use Case of Managed Services.
• Smart factories and the transformations wrought by the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) – Use Case of Production Constraint Diagnosis.
• Big Data, Cloud Computing, and the Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics needed for data-driven smart decisions and process automation – Use Case of Demand and Planning.
• Human-machine collaborative efforts, Artificial Intelligence, and the future of work and skills needed in Industry 4.0 / Smart Economy – Use Case of Smart Retail Implementation.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Recognize the characteristics of advanced analytics that make them key to Industry 4.0.
• Understand the basic underlying concepts of diagnostic analytics in the analysis of factory constraints.
• Understand how predictive analytics techniques, such as regression, are used to forecast demand.
• Apply basic prescriptive analytics to recommend stocking levels of several products sharing WIP space.
• Understand how smart systems should be designed to work with humans responsible for business outcomes.

Outline

Assessments may comprise of mini-projects, presentations, workshop assignments or quizzes, etc.

FAQs

Course Registration

1. When does the registration close?

Registration will close two weeks before commencement date or when the class is full, whichever earlier. If you wish to register after the registration closes, please email us and we may review on a case-by-case basis.

2. How do I know if my registration has been submitted successfully?

An acknowledgement email will be sent to you.

3. I received the acknowledgement email. Does that mean that my place in the class is confirmed?

No. The acknowledgment email is to inform you that the registration is submitted successfully. Your registration is still required to be processed by the short course coordinator internally. Should you have any queries pertaining to your registration, or have any changes to be made, please email us.

4. Can I withdraw my application?

• • The short course coordinator must be notified in writing of all requests for withdrawals and deferment at least 7 days before the run.
  • If you have accepted the offer to a short course programme run, but find that you are unable to attend, you should notify us by writing to fos.shortcourses@nus.edu.sg.
  • Applicants may postpone participation and request for deferment to other course runs, subject to availability.
  • Requests for cancellation will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and refunds may be issued.
  • We are unable to process any refunds for NUS Alumni utilising R&G vouchers. More information on R&G Voucher can be found here.

Course Funding

1. What funding(s) is available for the courses?

Please refer to the ‘Course Fees’ section in the course brochure.

2. I am corporate/self-sponsored. Am I eligible for SSG Funding?

Yes. All Singapore Citizen/SPR attending SSG funded courses will be eligible for SSG Funding, provided you have not taken the same course before.

In addition, you must meet the two criteria:

• • • Attain minimum 75% attendance,
    • Achieve a ‘Competent’ grade in all assessment(s)

3. How do I apply for SSG Funding?

The course fees will automatically be tabulated with the relevant SSG funding based on your eligibility. No action is required from the participant/company except to ensure that the participant meets the two criteria stated above.

4. I am self-sponsored. Can I use my SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees?

Yes. Once an offer of placement has been granted for your application, you will have to accept the offer via NUS Online Application Portal and make the payment via your SkillsFuture credits. Payment is not required upfront during registration.

Payment

1. What are the modes of payment?

• • Visa, Mastercard, Amex or Alipay
  • PayNow (a QR code will be displayed during payment)
  • SkillsFuture credits (you will be required to submit an SFC claim upon making payment, you will be redirected to an external link for you to authenticate using Singpass on SFC website)

2. When can I make the payment?

Once your registration has been processed and an offer of placement has been granted to you, you will receive an automated email for you to accept the offer on NUS Online Application Portal.

Once you have accepted the offer, you will be directed to the payment page. 

Assessment

1. Is there an assessment component for the course?

Yes. The mode of assessment is up to the CET instructor’s discretion. It may be a reflection paper, quiz, presentation, or based on classroom activities. You will be required to achieve a ‘Competent’ grade for the assessment(s).

2. What happens if I did not achieve a ‘Competent’ grade in my assessment?

You will be notified by the short course coordinator if you did not achieve “Competent” for the short course. You may be offered for a deferment for the next available class.

E-Certificate

1. Will I receive a certificate for the course?

An e-certificate will be issued upon successful completion within 20 working days.

2. Can I request a specific name to be on the e-certificate?

The name on the e-certificate will be issued according to the full name as per registration.
