Programme Objectives

Regardless of job function, in the era of big data, we must all learn the language of data. Acquiring data might be easy in a digitized, networked society, but until you can make sense of them, they remain mere bits and bytes in storage. The ability to read, analyze, and understand data places you in an advantageous position. Data literacy enables you to draw insights and guide decision-making. Gut feelings can now be supported and informed by data. Additionally, the ability to communicate complicated data insights in clear visual form lends persuasive heft to your arguments.

The programs in this professional certificate introduce the new language of data, data management know-how, and tools you can use to analyze data and communicate information visually. You will advance to learning prescriptive and predictive analytics techniques that lead to more precise demand forecasting. Data is ubiquitous and ready to be tapped into. Equip yourself with the skills to leverage this invaluable resource.

Note: You are strongly to attend the courses in the order below for a greater learning experience: 

1. Analytics in Industry 4.0 (Faculty of Science, 2 days)
2. Data Analytics Begins With Me (Faculty of Science, 1 day)
3. Data Visualization Begins With Me (Faculty of Science, 1 day)*
4. Customer Insights Begins With Me (Faculty of Science, 1 day)
5. Data Analytics for Managers (Faculty of Science, 1 day)

*Note: For Data Visualization Begins With Me, we offer either Tableau or Power BI software tool. You’re only required to attend 1 software tool.

Who Should Attend

For those who would like to understand emerging technologies and how these technologies impact their work, and for individuals who wish to interpret and use data effectively.

Candidature Duration

Five short courses to be completed within 12 months from the first class start date.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR NUS ALUMNI R&G VIRTUAL VOUCHER HOLDERS: 

• The last day to use your R&G Virtual Vouchers is 31 March 2024. 
• You must apply for the Professional Certificate (provided there are still available dates) by 28 March 2024 (2359hrs), and accept the course offer(s) of placement(s) by 31 March 2024 (2359hrs).
• The R&G Virtual Vouchers can only cover Professional Certificate (PCs) where all courses that are part of the PC start on or before 30 June 2024.
• Should there be any pending courses that an applicant has yet to start on 1 July 2024, he/she will be withdrawn from the respective short courses. If they wish to complete those courses, they have to re-apply and pay the corresponding course fees.

Award of Professional Certificate

Upon fulfilling the requirements of the modules listed, submit your individual course certificates to fos.shortcourses@nus.edu.sg to request for your NUS Professional Certificate in Data Literacy for Non-Data Scientists.
